Ever notice how the subject of music interest only comes up when someone is *supposedly* gothic?
We never hear how the shooter listened to gangsta rap, or the strangler had a liking for country, though I feel these both would be much more common.
We about the correlations between wearing tubesocks and shooting sprees, or between wearing underwear and stabbings.
Media sensationalism was what killed the goth scene - not because people good for the scene were discouraged from being a part of it, but because losers with fake fangs in trench coats and mall-store vinyl pants flooded the clubs and filled requests lists with crappy mainstream substitutes for what was to be alternative music for an alternative scene.
Eventually, it was replaced by yet another marketable niche, and the determined individualists moved on, shunning the very name because of those who they would be associated with.
Goth is dead, long live goth.
